How to Prepare For the New Year

As we approach the start of a new year, it’s a time filled with opportunities, especially if you’re someone who has experienced the loss of a loved one. Each new day and each page of the calendar holds the potential for healing and personal growth. The year ahead invites us to be brave, to show up for ourselves, and to move forward as widowed individuals. While the pain of loss may linger, remember that you have the strength to find hope, rebuild, and create a life that honors both your past and your future.

Empty Your Task Box

Our task lists can pile up, especially during busy times like November and December.. Emptying your task box by completing pending chores and tasks can provide you with a sense of accomplishment and control. It’s a way of decluttering your mind and preparing for a fresh start.

Pay Any Bills

Handling financial responsibilities can be particularly challenging when you’re grieving. Address your bills and financial matters because it’s an important and practical step toward maintaining stability and reducing stress as you enter the new year.

Change the Sheets

Changing the sheets on your bed may seem like a simple act, but it can offer a sense of comfort and renewal. Fresh, clean sheets symbolize a fresh start, a new beginning. You will go to bed and wake up feeling cozy and renewed.

Choose Your New Planner & Pens

Selecting a new planner and a set of pens may sound like a routine task, but it represents a commitment to planning and organizing your life in the coming year. It’s a way of saying to yourself, “I am ready to embrace the future, one day at a time.” Remember the excitement of picking out your new school supplies? Well, this is the adult version! Enjoy yourself! Find a system that works for you and then commit to getting organized, one week at a time.

Make a Nutritious Meal

Cooking a nutritious meal is not just about nourishing your body but also your soul. Grief can often lead to neglecting self-care, including nutrition.

Preparing a wholesome meal reminds me of the importance of taking care of myself, even when life feels overwhelming.
